“For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.”
(William Wordsworth)
I’ve always called these bright harbingers of spring “jonquils.” It’s such a pretty word, and if there’s technically a difference, I don’t know it, But whatever name we know them by, I find them to be beautiful and cheerful flowers; they make me happy. I hope you enjoy this first day of March wherever you are.
