Happy Birthday, Henry David Thoreau!

(July 12, 1817 — May 6, 1862)

Two of my favorite Thoreau quotes:

“I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual.”

“The true harvest of my daily life is somewhat as intangible and indescribable as the tints of morning or evening. It is a little star-dust caught, a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.”

Thoreau is a favorite among us pantheists. When I was a teenager, long before I would come to identify as a pantheist, I was drawn to Thoreau and Walden. I knew that book was important, and it resonated with me, even though I wasn’t quite ready at that time to pursue my own connection with nature and its importance in my life.

The Sky Above Me

Some views of the amazing and colorful sky from my yard and driveway…most definitely sacred space and ours for the viewing every day.   Looking at that vast sky makes me feel insignificant and special at the same time, definitely blessed, and deeply aware of my connection to the divine Universe, to God.  Don’t forget to look up!
